360th TEWS and 6994th Security Squadron,

Tan Son Nhut 1968

During the war, the 360th Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron flew EC-47 aircraft, which were a modified version of the World War Two era DC-3, filled with (then) state-of-the-art electronic equipment; the 360th TEWS provided the aircraft and the “front-end” crews (pilot, co-pilot, navigator, flight engineer), while the 6994th Security Squadron provided “back-end crews” who were in charge of the electronic equipment. Their role was to monitor the radio traffic emitted by Vietcong and North Vietnamese troops, and pinpoint their location for friendly units.
