ARVN Armor Advisors 1969

The Army of the Republic of Vietnam used tanks in the coastal areas of Vietnam throughout the war. They were assisted by American advisors who went with them on the battlefield. Much of the advisors’ time was spent coordinating US fire support (artillery, naval gunfire, tactical air strikes) and medical evacuations. Although they received a few weeks training in Vietnamese, they had to rely heavily on the ARVN interpreters to perform their duties. This photo series shows an advisory team in an ARVN compound before an operation.
