1st Reconnaissance Battalion with HMM-364 Crew, 1970

The 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, stationned in Vietnam from 1965 to 1971, conducted intelligence gathering missions with small teams deep inside ennemy territory. One of the squadrons providing helicopter support was HMM-364 "Purple Foxes", with its CH-46A aircraft.

This photo series shows a last-minute briefing between a CH-46A crew and the team leaders of a 6-man recon team. They are wearing standard ERDL jungle uniforms, and have taped most of their equipment in order to avoid unnecessary noises in the jungle. One of the Marines displays his Navy jump wings, worn with LLDB (South Vietnamese Special Forces) wings.
