197^th Aviation Company, Tan Son Nhut , late 1965

The 197^th Aviation Company was activated in Tan Son Nhut in March 1965. It moved to Bien Hoa Air Base in March 1966 and was inactivated in March 1966. This unit flew UH-1B Huey helicopters and supported US Navy operations in the Rung Sat Special Zone in 1965. On 20 April 1966, the 197th tested the XM-31 20 mm canon in combat for the first time.
